Why HSC timetables collapse

Students build perfect grids in January and abandon them by March when assignments arrive. A surviving timetable has buffer, rotation, and reviews that move forward when life happens — not guilt when it does.

Weekly template (sample)

  • Mon–Thu: Two 90-min deep blocks + one 30-min cross-subject review nightly
  • Fri: Mixed past-paper questions from two subjects
  • Sat: Trial-style timed section + error-log repair
  • Sun: Half rest, half light retrieval

Spacing across Extension units

Extension 1 and 2 Maths, English Extension — depth tempts you to mono-subject weeks. Schedule maintenance retrievals on Standard/Advanced units while going deep on Extension, or the curve collects its debt.

Trial exams: use twice

Sit under conditions. Mark honestly. Schedule retrievals on every missed outcome — the trial is valuable only if the errors come back on purpose.

Signs to rebalance

  • One subject has not been reviewed in ten days — add a maintenance block.
  • You are rereading notes without closed-book attempts — switch to retrieval.
  • Sleep is negotiable — cut social, not consolidation.
Sustainable revision is the timetable you still follow in September.
